The “Building a New Industry” Photo Exhibit and the “Trying on the Future” Clothing Collection Opened at the Rusnanotech-2011 Forum

The first day of the 4th International Nanotechnology Forum was brought to a close by the presentation of the “Building a New Industry” photography project, dedicated to the factories of RUSNANO’s development companies, and Lyudmila Norsoyan new clothing collection, “Trying on the Future” was also put on display.

Maxim Shapovalov and Vladislav Shut’s photography project is dedicated to the nanotechnology enterprises created with the support of JSC RUSNANO in 2011. This project is, in its own way, one of the first attempts to form a new artistic language, to turn the new industry’s factories into examples of a new aesthetic.

A demonstration of a clothing collection made from high-tech materials was prepared by designer Lyudmila Norsoyan. The basic model for this collection is a comfortable, lightweight plastic tunic. The key principles behind it are: unisex, unisize, uniseasonal. A dress made from hypoallergenic thread based on lactose, decorated with a pattern from traditional Russian women’s attire, added with the help of a UV printer from the SUN company.

In the designer’s own words, she heard the world “nanotechnology” for the first time ten years ago, during a conversation with some partners from Austria: “They showed me Kevlar fiber — the material they use to cover the drivers’ compartments of Formula 1 racecars. This is technology for specialized application, and fashion has little to do with it. But none the less, I started doing experiments. Kevlar, polypropylene, Teflon, coldblack, steel, copper, silicone … from Russia, Switzerland, Scotland, Latvia, China, Korea, Italy and Japan. All of that is being presented today at the Forum.
